In 1902 Carew Davies Gilbert of Eastbourne leased a plot of land at Upwick, part of Longlands, having a frontage to Broomfield Street on the south east (shown on plan), together with a recently erected messuage called 6 Bath Terrace, Broomfield Street, to John Frederick Relf of Eastbourne, builder, for 99 years (HIL/6/47/1). In 1929 Relf purchased the freehold reversion of the house, then known as 14 Broomfield Street (HIL/6/47/3)
