Vacuum and Blowing Engines (24 items).
Double-acting engine, with 45 inch cylinder, 8 foot stroke, parallel motion, [cast iron beam].
Reverse transverse and longitudinal sections of the engine house, plan of the engine house; air pump and condenser - original and press copy drawings; hot water pump - press copy drawing; hot and cold water pumps - coloured original and coloured reverse drawings; working gear - coloured original and coloured reverse front and side views; air pump and condenser - uncoded coloured drawing also marked "Cochrane's Condenser"; parallel motion - coloured original drawing. All these drawings bear letter codes.
Also the following uncoded items: set of sketches of working gear components: 1 - handles etc., [2 - wanting], 3 - levers, shafts, regulating catches etc., 4 - Y shafts and catch, 5 - plug and air pump rods, plug rod bracket, 6 - throttle valve and gearing, 7 - working gear bracket, 8 - nozzle brackets and part of balance gears, [9 - wanting]. Also 2 sheets of sketches of parallel motion components.
Also the following later drawings: high pressure cylinder nozzles etc. - coloured original and coloured reverse drawings, 21 Oct. 1845; sketch of a new link marked "brought to Soho Foundry by Mr. Rollason 27 Feb. 1865".Original Portfolio or 'Book' No. 778. Catalogue of Old Engines p. 272.
For Benjamin Gibbons. Level Iron Works, Brierley Hill, Staffordshire. Note that the Catalogue of Old Engines says that this engine was erected in 1810. However the engine erected at Level Iron Works in 1810 was a 42 inch engine coded TT [see Portfolio 5/679a above]. The drawings for this engine were placed in the same book as those for the 42 inch engine of 1824 [see Portfolio 5/679c above].
