Includes the following miscellaneous research material:

-letter from Henry Lamb, dated 21 May 1950, concerning a statement made by Waterhouse in a broadcast on Kneller & Lawrence, that Reynolds was a 'shocking bad draughtsman'

-copy of a letter written by Waterhouse to Nordenfalk, dated 17 November 1954, concerning the following three works by Reynolds: 'Euphrosyne'; 'Sir Thomas Mills' and 'The Hop Pickers'

-letter from Ian Macdonald Horobin, dated 15 July 1955, concerning a portrait

-letter from Helen Davey, Smith College Museum of Art, dated 13 March 1961, concerning a Reynolds sketchbook in the Furse collection and other sketchbooks of Reynolds

-Herrmann, Luke. (1968) 'The Drawings by Sir Joshua Reynolds in the Herschel Album', The Burlington Magazine, Vol. CX, No.789, December 1968

-two letters from staff at Bedfordshire Record Office, dated 1961, concerning archive material concerning Reynolds in the collection. Also includes transcripts of four letters from Reynolds to Mrs Robinson, dated 1772-1774, in the Bedfordshire Record Office collections.

-six letters exchanged between Joseph T. Rankin, New York Public Library; Mrs Bridget Ryan and Ellis Waterhouse, dated 12 February - 23 March 1970 concerning a Reynolds notebook said to have been sold to Colonel Lennox of New York

-letter from Kenneth Garlick, Ashmolean Museum, dated 21 April 1970, concerning a Reynolds sketchbook in the Furse collection

-copy of a research note listing works by various artist sold at auction between 1744-1758 (3pp)

Following publication of the 1941 catalogue, Waterhouse continued to research and receive correspondence concerning Reynolds. This file contains material of a general nature (ie. not relating to specific works by Reynolds) collected between the publication of his first and second catalogue, published in 1973.
