Administrative / biographical background

In 1955 the Board of Moral Welfare (see EDM 2) was registered as an adoption society with Cheshire County Council. This enabled the Board (called the Board for Social Responsibility from 1972) to place for adoption the babies of the girls who had been cared for by diocesan workers - about 85% of the work of the Board related to baby adoptions and fostering.
