Book of "The Accompt of John Thynne, Stewarde of Housholde to ... Edwarde [Seymour], Erle of Harlforde", etc.; 1 Oct. 34 Hen. VIII. [1542]-30 Sept. 35 Hen. VIII. [1543]. The receipts amount to £3922.14.7¼, and the payments to £3663.10.1½. Each division is signed "E. Hertford".
The payments are not arranged as in the accompts preceding. The "ordinari charges of the housholde" appear only as a total at the end, £1933.16.4¾. The "extraordinarie paymentes, amounting to £1729.13.9", are entered for each month under heads, e.g. Oct. "Moneye", "Rewardes", "A standert, Banner, etc." (f.3), Dec. "My Lordes charges in the North", (f.3) Jan. "New yeres geeftes, etc.", including "a polax and a javelinge" for the king. (f.3b). The period covered includes the time during which Hertford was Warden of the Marches in the north (Sept-Nov.1542), and many of the entries relate to the provision of "munitions for war", etc. (see f.6). On f.7b is a payment of £1.13.4 to Henry Coldewell, goldsmith for "a plate of coper gravyn with my lordes armes, crest and helmet, with beestes supporting and the garter about the same, enamelid gilte and sylverid, set in his lordships stall at Windsor the XVII of June".
