Evidences to title to the North Cove Hall Estate

William Everitt the son of George Everitt of Caister Castle bought the North Cove Hall estate from the trustees of the late John Cooper in 1846. The evidences of title in this collection however relate to the transactions of William's son and grandsons, William Spencer Everitt was born on 8 March 1836 and he married Elizabeth Josephine Reeve the eldest daughter of Robert Reeve of Holton Hall on 29 February 1860, and they had three sons William George, Henry Reeve, and Charles, and two daughters Josephine Olive Louise, and Clare or Cissie.

William Spencer was a keen sports man and the estate was one of the best sporting estates in the area. He was an authority on punt gunnery and wildfowl shooting, and was one of the founder members of the Royal Norfolk and Suffolk Yacht Club. North Cove Hall appears to have been rented out to a series of tenants from about 1880, and the family lived at Broad House, Oulton Broad. William Spencer died on 26 December 1913, and the estate was managed by his trustees until it was sold to Frederick William Smalley in 1917, who in turn sold it to Captain Edward Fortrey George Turnball Heap in 1919. Henry Reeve usually known by his pen name Nicholas inherited Broad House, where he lived until his death in 1928, when it was bought by his friend Howard Hollingsworth and given to the Borough of Lowestoft in his memory.
