Lease and release of the estates purchased by the late Sir Gilfrid Lawson and conveyed to trustees in his lifetime and under his will and codicil (William Browne of Tallentire Hall, Esq., surviving trustee of the will and codicil, and William Brisco son of John (the co-trustee, with the said William Browne, in Sir Gilfrid's lifetime) Brisco deceased, both of Langrigg, gentlemen, to Sir Wilfrid, Sir Gilfrid's only son at Sir Wilfrid's request, now that the legacies etc. are paid) - reciting that Sir Gilfrid conveyed his customary estates in Isel and at Little Leesrigg to William Browne on trust, and his Bassenthwaite customary estate to John Brisco on trust; and that the trustees for his Will and Codicil were Percival Clennell and William Browne; recites at length from the Will (29 Dec. 1787) and Codicil (25 June 1790), and that between the codicil's making and his death in July 1794, Sir Gilfrid invested a total of £13,412. 7s. 11d.; and that Sir Wilfrid his son proved the will and codicil in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury; that Jonathan Potts, a legatee (the agent at Brayton), predeceased Sir Gilfrid; that on his death, Sir Gilfrid left but two children, a son Wilfrid and a daughter Emilia, and that Emilia has since died unmarried; that Percival Clennell (the other Trustee) is now dead - conveys: the Manor of Whitrigg p. Torpenhow; the house, barn, and land lately bought by Sir Gilfrid from Joseph Whitehead, and all the houses and lands near Brayton and at Brotts Dyke formerly customary of the Earl of Egremont's Manor of Aspatria but lately enfranchised by the said Earl; the parcels near Oughterside Demesne lately enfranchised by the said Earl and sold to Sir Gilfrid; the houses, lands, and former part of Hewthwaite Demesne lately sold to Sir Gilfrid by John Lucock and Dr William Pitcairn; the houses and lands in Upmanby and Leesrigg, lately sold to Sir Gilfrid by Thomas Asbridge and Joseph Barnes; Wilson's Field (adjoining Fitz Estate) lately sold to Sir Gilfrid by Roger Williamson; Drewry's Tenement (house and land) in Baggrow and/or Upmanby, lately enfranchised and sold to Sir Gilfrid; the grasses in Bassenthwaite Parks, lately sold to Sir Gilfrid by Matthew Cape; and Sir Gilfrid's Manors, lands and tithes in Bassenthwaite, Whitrigg, Torpenhow, Setmurthy, Hewthwaite, Aspatria, Uponby otherwise Upmanby, Harby Brow, and "Leesrigg", together with all ..Orchards Garths Gardens .. Minerals Quarries of Stone and Slate, Woods .. Timber and Trees ..; and also, at Sir Wilfrid's further desire, All that customary house and its land called Little Hewthwaite in Setmurthy, that do. do. called Leeserigg p. Allhallows in the reputed Manor of Harby Brow and Upmanby, that do.do. at Barkbeth in Bassenthwaite (rent £1. 4s. 6d.) lately bought by Sir Gilfrid from Mary Mandale widow and William Mandale, the 9 grasses in High Dalt, part of a house and its land (rent £2. 0s. 1d.apportioned to 1d.) lately bought by Sir Gilfrid from John Wilson; and further, those two houses and their lands called Colebeck (Manor of Isel), rents 18s.2d. and 13s.4d., bought by Sir Gilfrid from John Fell and John Messenger respectively; the two houses and lands at Lingy Bank (do.), each of rent 13s.4d., bought by do. from Henry Fisher and Martha his wife; the house and its land called Bankhead (do.) rent 11s.0d., bought by do. from John Sealby; the 9 grasses at Sunderland Springs (do.) bought by Sir Gilfrid from various people (details); - and general release to tie up the late Sir Gilfrid's affairs under the Will (details of Sir Gilfrid's legatees and creditors, to whom a total of £7107.12s.8½d. is due)
