DD\CM Boxes 14-30. [the contents of the boxes are now re-numbered as items, 173-247: the old box/bundle numbers appearing in square brackets[]. These documents were formerly kept in the undercroft or cellars of Earnshill House. They are all very badly damaged by the action of damp and rust from the corroded deed boxes, and the cost of repair would be prohibitive and unjustifiable in the case of most of the material. The whole collection has been fumigated and thoroughly aired over a very long period, and a few of the more important items have been repaired. The catalogue has been produced in greater detail than is usual, where it has been possible to recover the main information, and the documents should only be consulted, and then only by an experienced archivist, as a last resort.
