Description (What the record is about)
-
The subject file title ('Buildings') is incorrect. Instead, the two volumes contain correspondence relating to British relations with Muscat, and the increasing French influence in the affairs of the Sultan of Muscat. The dispute concerning Muscat ships using the French flag to transport slaves figures prominently, as do Great Britain's relations with Faisal bin Turki, Sultan of Muscat, and questions of the latter's debts, abdication, and use of a steamship to patrol the waters of his dominions.
-
Arrangement (Information about the filing sequence or logical order of the record)
-
The Building files are arranged by file and part number, in which, for example, the reference 59/15 B is composed of the subject reference 59 (Buildings), the file number 15 and the part number B. Numbers in brackets after the reference show that the file also formed part of the 'Confidential' series held at the Residency in Bushire, in which A stands for Muscat.
