Despatch from the Foreign Department, Government of India, to theSecretary of State for India, No. 202 of 1870, dated 27 September 1870,containing enclosures dated 31 May-7 September 1870. The enclosures consist of copies ofcorrespondence relating to events in Muscat and Oman, particularly in referenceto the possibility of an attack by Syud Toorkee [Sayyid Turkī bin Sa'īd Āl Bū Sa'īd], including:. British assurances to both Toorkee and the Sultan of Muscat Azan bin Ghias [Sayyid 'Azzān bin Qays Āl Bū Sa'īd] that they will fully enforce the preservation of maritime peace in the region; Toorkee's departure from Debaye [Dubai] after a dispute with the Sheikh [Shaikh] of Debaye and a failure to raise any significant support there; Support for Toorkee from his brother Syud Majid [Sayyid Mājid bin Sa'īd Āl Bū Sa'īd], Sultan of Zanzibar, and from Hajee Ahmed Khan [Ḥājjī Aḥmad Khān], Governor of Bunder Abbas [Bandar-e 'Abbas]; British preparations to protect British subjects and property at Muscat, Mutrah [Matrah] and Soor [Sur]; The primary correspondents are: Syud Toorkee; Azan bin Ghias; Hajee Ahmed Khan; the Political Resident in the Persian Gulf; the Political Agent, Muscat; the Native Agent, Arab Coast; the Government of Bombay; and the Government of India.
