West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.Born Manchester 8/11/87 the son of Alfred Giles Ashworth (dentist) and Amelia Ashworth (formerly Walker) and educated at the Modern School,
Southport. His parents were living at 29 King St Southport during the war. He originally enlisted in Southport on 16/9/14 in 7 KLR as No 2700/265699 giving his address as 29 King St Southport. He was a dental student and mechanic. Height 5' 5", weight 9st 9lbs with good physical development, unmarried. Appointed L/Cpl 15/7/15 in 44 Provisional Battalion, appointed L/Sgt 16/11/15, promoted Sgt 28/12/15. Passed as 1st Class MG Instructor at Bisley December 1915. Transferred to 7 KLR 13/5/16. His application for a commission is dated 14/9/16 and at the time of his application he was described as a signaller with 7 KLR at No4 West Camp Oswestry. Ordered to report to Bisley on 26/9/16 for officer training. Discharged to commission in MGC LG 10/2/17. Embarked Folkestone for Boulogne 15/5/17. Joined MG Base Depot Camiers 16/5/17. Joined 25 Company MGC from Base 25/5/17. Killed in action 16/8/17. In his will he left £102 7s 7d. (Officers Papers - PRO)Eldest son of Mr and Mrs Ashworth of 29 King St, Southport. Aged 29. Joined KLR in Sept 1914 as a Private and was later promoted Corporal and
Sgt then MG Instructor. He entered the training school at Bisley and was commissioned in February 1917 and went to France in May 1917. Photo
