Description

The fonds comprises documents and correspondence relating to the sale of items from Ernst and Lucie Freud's house at 32 St John's Wood Terrace, NW8, after Lucie Freud's death on 17 August 1989. It includes lists of items, valuations, notes, some photographs and Lucie Freud's will, as well as extensive correspondence (almost exclusively to and from Ann Freud) with solicitors (executors), accountants, auctioneers and the Freud Museum London amongst others.

Arrangement

The documents have been kept in the original order of the files in which they were acquired. They are largely in reverse chronological order, with folder 1 making up one series and folders 2 and 3 a second.

Administrative / biographical background

Ann, a bank manager?s daughter, was born in 1927. Ann married Stephen Gabriel Freud, the grandson of Sigmund Freud and the brother of Clement and Lucian Freud, in 1977. They had met at Southwold Golf Club in Suffolk. She was his second wife and they stayed married until his death in 2015.
