An illuminated address presented to Edward Francis Russell (1844-1925) upon his resignation and completion of fifty years' service as curate of St. Alban the Martyr, Holborn, London. The address was presented on behalf of friends of Russell in various circles, including the Guild of St. Barnabas for Nurses, St. John's House nurses, St Alban's day schools and Sunday school; all of them are named. It is signed on their behalf by Charles Lindley Wood, 2nd Viscount Halifax, Arthur Foley Winnington-Ingram, Bishop of London, and others.

On vellum. Finely written in an italic hand in black, red and blue inks. With illuminated initials and decoration in gold. Fine binding of red goatskin, tooled in gold, with the arms of St. Alban the Martyr, Holborn, as centrepiece. 264 x 182 mm.. The binding is signed 'C. McL 1917', probably the work of Charles McLeish the elder or his son Charles McLeish the younger. Charles McLeish the elder (1859-1949) was a finisher for T.J. Cobden-Sanderson at the Doves Press Bindery 1893-1909, and in partnership with his sons as C & C McLeish 1909-49. Preserved within wooden case, the inner surfaces covered in red velvet.
