Steam Boat Engines (36 items).

1177. Danube Steamer No. 11, Stamboul (RR & RS). Oct. 1824, Jul. 1825, Jun. 1836, Jan.-Jul. 1837, Feb. 1838, Dec. 1858. 36 items.
Two 80 horse power side lever boat engines, with 51 inch cylinders, 4½ foot strokes. Power increased 1858.

Cross-section of the boat and engines, aft bulkhead cross-section of the boat and boiler, plan of the deck beams, longitudinal section of the engine room and boiler, section and plan of engines and sleepers etc., gangway wale and paddle casing - reverse drawings made in the London office; main lever and cross bars - shaded original drawing made in Oct. 1824 and re-used for the Stamboul; hot water pump - coloured reverse drawing made in Jul. 1825 and re-used for the Stamboul; sections and plans of the boiler - partially coloured reverse drawings made in the London office Jun. 1836 and re-used for the Stamboul; lower headstock frame - shaded original drawing with note from Gilbert Hamilton to Richard Lewis attached; paddle wheel, shaft, cranks etc. - partially coloured original and partially coloured reverse drawings; headstock - original and reverse drawings (half of the original drawing is missing); working gear (marked "not adopted"); working gear - original and reverse drawings; aft bulkhead section of the boat; steam, feeding and blow out pipes - partially coloured original and partially coloured reverse drawings; coal boxes - partially coloured reverse drawing; press copy sketch of bolt holes; cross-section of boat; sketch plan of flooring plates, coal boxes etc., with press copy; eccentric rod, disengaging gear, circle and reversing gear - partially coloured original and partially coloured reverse drawings; condensing trap - coloured original and coloured reverse drawings; letter and sketch from Gilbert Hamilton to ? re cylinders; sketch of middle shaft; sheet of calculations of costs of parts [?].
Also the following later items: design for a headstock "altered from the Danube 80s" (not dated); sketch by James Brown for new cylinder, 51 inch cylinder with 4½ foot stroke - coloured original and coloured reverse drawings, Dec. 1858.
