Sapphire contract position. Sa.5, Sa.6 and Sa.7.(a) Requirement of six Sa.7 engines for handley Page HP.80 aircraft. (b) Requirement for nine Sa.5 engines for English Electric P.1 aircraft. (c) Recruitment of six sa.6 engines for Vulcan aircraft.Compressor troubles: Fatigue cracks in roots of the 1st row blades. Failure due to stator blades probably caused by poor riveting. Compressor failed after 50 hours. Flying test beds: AST Lancastrian VM.733; Gloster Meteor WA.820; Canberra WD.933; Canberra 2nd aircraft VW.787. Prototype aircraft: Gloster Javelin (2nd aircraft) WD.808; Gloster Javelin (3rd aircraft) WD.827; Handley Page HP.80 (4 Sa.6 engines); Ist aircraft WB.771; 2nd aircraft due March/April 1953. Hawker Hunter WB.202 Sa.6; English Electric P.1 (twin Sa.5 engines); Hawker Hunter Sa.7. Adder test position: No future test being carried out. Viper test position and future programme. Viper in tail of Mamba Lancastrian SW.342. Double Mamba test position: 3-stage turbine. Fairey Gannet VR.546; Fairey Gannet VR.557 (2nd aircraft); Fairey Gannet WE.488 (3rd aircraft); Blackburn GR17/45 WB.797. Mamba test position: 3-stage turbine. Armstrong Siddeley Motors.6 engine. SB.6 prototype flight engines (ex Sturgeon). Lancaster SW.342; Dakota KJ.839; Balliol VL.935. Python test position. Closure of contract for Python 3-stage turbine. Wyvern VW.868. Rocket: Screamer rocket motor should be ready by 30 April 1953. Provision of aircraft for Screamer test put back to June 1953. Armstrong Siddeley Motors have submitted a design study to Avro for an assisted take-off unit
