Description

Deeds relating to the estate of William Philip Molyneux, 2nd Eart of Sefton in Stoke Poges [Stoke Farm, later known as Sefton Park].

Arrangement

SUMMARY

Bundles 1 - 7. Property purchased from Sir William Johnston in 1803:

1. 2 cottages, formerly (1741) one, at Morrells End, 1584-1791. (Purchased by Johnston from Stanborough, 1791).

2. Messuage and closes (10a.) at Morrells End, 1669-1803. (Purchased from William Pitt, 1792).

3. 3 messuages and gardens at Morrells End, 1700-1792. (Purchased from William Pitt, 1792).

4. Cottage at Morrells End, 1698-1793. (Purchased from John Penn, 1793).

5. Johnston mortgages, etc., referring to the above properties and to a capital messuage "lately erected", 1792-1795.

6. Conveyance from Johnston to Sefton and related items, including lease to Sefton, 1798 (with inventory), 1792-1803.

7. Deeds relating to mortgages, etc., charged on the estate, 1792-1834.

8 - 9. 5 messuages at Morrells End, including (from 1770) the Five Bells P.H., 1639-1838. (Purchased from Hunt, 1804).

10. 5a. land converted into a kitchen garden, and land (52a.) 1801. (Purchased from Lord Godolphin).

11. 3 messuages called Lashes, 1736-1834. (Purchased from Goddard, 1828).

12. Exchange with the vicar of Datchet, 1802.

13. Exchange with vicars of Datchet and Stoke Poges, 1834-1837.

Notes

Most of the collection was received with the original bundles and labels still intact. A small bundle of unlabelled wills has been redistributed (no's. 1/9, 14; 2/2, 7, 16; 8/6), but otherwise the bundles have been left as they were. The bundles were origiginally in a different sequence thus:

1 now is bundle 8

2 now is bundle 1

3 now is bundle 2

4 now is bundle 3

5 now is bundle 4

6 now is bundle 5

7 now is bundle 10

8 now is bundle 12

9 now is bundle 6

10 now is bundle 9

Bundles number 7, 11, 13 were unlabelled.

Unless otherwise stated, all the properties are in Stoke Poges.

Legal form considerations of 5/- and 10/- are omitted.

The majority of the deeds give details of occupiers and boundaries.
