Description

There are four deposits, which combine to form the Nevill Holt collection and contain inter-related documents. This deposit contains 2,300 documents dating from the twelfth to eighteenth centuries and includes title deeds and manorial papers for lands in Holt and Medbourne. Within this collection is a plan of Nevill Holt Hall, drawn in 1661.

<p>The other catalogued deposit - DE220 - contains title deeds and correspondence for both the Nevill and Peake families and there are two further unlisted deposits DE91 and DE1750.</p>

Immediate source of acquisition

These documents are the residue of a collection of mss presented to the Historical Manuscripts Commission in 1879 by Frederick Peake, Esq. (See H.M.C. Reports 2nd, 3rd and 7th). Some items were distributed by the Commission soon after 1879 and the residue were deposited in the County Record Office, 30th August 1954.
