Description (What the record is about)

The Improvement Commissioners were established in 1844 (7 & 8 Vict. c. Ixxv) to replace the Pavement Commissioners. In 1850, the functions of the Improvement Commissioners (and also the Waterworks Commissioners) were taken over by the Local Board of Health (see SC/AH for records)
Many of the commissioners' papers were not transferred to the local board, but have survived amongst the Page and Moody archives (see D/PM 18/2)
