Records of the Opposition to the North East Somerset Water Bill 1887

Papers relating to the Bath Corporation's opposition to the establishment of a private waterworks company, to be called the 'North East Somerset Waterworks Company'. The Corporation was opposed to the establishment of the company on similar grounds to its opposition to the West Gloucester Water Bill that was in consideration at the same time, namely that it had permission to supply water in the parishes of Weston and Twerton and had and was in the process of expending significant sums of money to expand its supply in those parishes.
The Corporation's opposition to the establishment of the Company was withdrawn upon the promoters of the Bill agreeing to the insertion of a proviso into the Bill as an amendment.
