Political and secret letters and enclosures from the Government of India to the Secretary of State for India in London - copies of the Secretary of State's answering dispatches are included from 1897. From 1875 to 1884 the political letters are filed in a separate sequence from the secret letters.The enclosures comprise extracts of proceedings, correspondence, minutes, reports etc. relating to the subjects raised in the letters. Note:- correspondence relating to the Indian States, 1881-1902, has been extracted from Vols 27 to 150 of this series and renumbered as L/PS/6/357-394. Certain files for the years 1902-1911 on special subjects have been extracted to form the first section of the series L/PS/10.
