The parish of Welwyn Garden City was created in May 1921 [County Council order no. UDC/18/491] and between 1921 and 1926 was under the jurisdiction of Welwyn Rural District Council.
The Welwyn Garden City Urban District Order of 3 December 1926 [County Council order no. UDC/18/561] constituted the parish of Welwyn Garden City an Urban District. The new urban district included parts of Welwyn Rural District, Hatfield Rural District and a small part of Hertford Rural District [For map of Welwyn Garden City Urban District see HCC 4/44]
