Administrative / biographical background

Colne is a civil parish in its own right, but forms part of the ecclesiastical parish of Somersham (for further details of the ecclesiastical parish, please see under Somersham).

Colne belonged to St Ives Poor Law Union 1836-1930; St Ives Rural Sanitary District 1875-1894; and St Ives Rural District 1894-1974. Since 1974 it has been part of Huntingdonshire district.
