John Ford Waterhouse purchased Croft House, which was the former parish workhouse, in 1857; he transferred the business to his sons Arthur Henry and Walter John Waterhouse in 1891, and it was then called Waterhouse Brothers. The partnership was short-lived; Walter died at Tunbridge Wells in March 1896, aged 32, and was buried at Ticehurst. John Ford Waterhouse, who had been living at 16 Woodbury Park Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, was buried at Ticehurst in January 1897, aged 76. Arthur Henry Waterhouse then purchased the premises, which included the two adjoining Croft Cottages; he died 9 September 1937, and the business was taken over by his son Harold Ernest (born 24 September 1904). The shop closed in 1969, and Harold continued to live in Croft House. He died in 1989, and the building is now (2002) divided into four cottages
