Description

A young prince. Oudh, c.1770-80. Richard Johnson Collection. Purchased 1807. Numbered 6 in Persian inventory note; on reverse: erased inscription. Gouache with gold; on an album page with fawn border and uncoloured margin. 189 by 121 mm; page 372 by 247 mm. A young prince dressed in a full-length yellow robe, facing right, stands in a field, holding a red 'talwar' in one hand and a sprig of narcissus in the other. There is a grey sky with clouds.
