enlisted as 7607 28 London Regt 19/1/1916. Born 1/12/1886, a solicitor, living at 49 Cathcart Rd, SW. Educ: Chaterhouse.
Casualty Form: 28/4/1917 from UK to BD Camiers. 5/5/1917 to join 36 Coy. 11/5/1917 joined in field. 29/6/1917 wounded in action at Monchy
1/7/1917 to 37 FA - gsw abdomen. To British Red Cross Hosp. 11/7/1917 transf to England on HS Warilda.
Medical Board, Jan 1918 : he has now recovered from effects of gsw but is still in a markedly nervous condition with muscular tremors, Sleeps badly. Was hit by MG bullet in abdomen below sternum - bullet removed. Has healed well.
Died 26/2/1919 - pneumonia, at Dorchester. "Times" 1/3/1919. Will "all property to sister, Dorothy River Highmore (aged 35 in 1919)"
Copy papers GS Archives;Other Notes: HIGHMORE, Second Lieutenant, CHARLES BOWYER, Machine Gun Corps (Inf). Died of pneumonia 26 February 1919 following wounds (gas) received at Monchy-le-Preux. Age 32. Son of Sir Nathaniel Highmore, G.B.E., K.C.B., and Lady Highmore, of Worcester Park, Surrey. Malden (St. John the Baptist) Churchyard - Surrey, United Kingdom.;
