Ms diary (April 1941 - January 1942, 32pp) and two scrap albums describing and illustrating his experiences from his capture in Libya while serving as a NCO in the Postal Section of the Royal Engineers to his release from imprisonment in April 1945. he was kept in the following camps: Sulmona (PG 78 May 1941 - October 1943), Altenfrabow (Stalag XIA November 1943 - February 1945), Fallingbostel (Stalag 357 February - April 1945). The Scrapbooks contain many excellent original examples of artwork and stories of other prisoners capture.

Alfred Hickmott enlisted in the Royal Engineers Supplementary Reserve at Woolwich in October 1938 and, at the outbreak of war, as a NCO, joined the Postal Section. He arrived in North Africa about January 1941 and was captured on 8 April 1941 during the retreat to Tobruk. He was transferred to the Italian mainland and imprisoned in Sulmona Camp (PG78) until October 1943 when he was moved to Stalag XIA at Altengrabow, Germany. In February 1945 he was moved to Stalag 357 at Fallingbostel where he remained until liberated on 16 April 1945.
