Description

Most of the letters are written by Sybil's mother Mrs Louisa Day. After the death of Sybil's parents, her sister Ena Day is the main correspondent. Many of the letters include descriptions of life in Southampton during the Second World War, with details of wartime conditions (rationing, difficulties with getting servants, wartime preparations) and the effect of the bombing raids on Southampton. There is a brief mention of activity in the town as a result of D-Day preparations.
