Some parishes and small towns still retain the old title of for the unpaid officials who take the minutes of Council meetings, but in the large boroughs and county boroughs it has remained a salaried position.
Today, the Chief Executive of Birmingham Council has a Corporate Management Team, which includes the Directors of Adults and Communities, Children, Young People and Families, Housing, Corporate Finance, Policy and Performance, Public Relations and Communications, Policy and Delivery (until August 2007), and Human Resources, as well as the Chief Legal Officer. Its key administrative branches are the Cabinet Office; Marketing and Communications; Regional, European and International Division; Regulatory Services; Legal and Democratic Services; Corporate Policy and Performance; and the Scrutiny Office.
