Description (What the record is about)
-
Richd. How (London) to Thos. How, his brother. Thos owes Richd. £2000 Richd. proposes the following arrangements:
1. For £1000 he will accept Thomas' house, Close, Crickille & Moors.
2. For £600 he will accept security on the rest of the estate payable with interest at 5%.
3. Hereupon he will give Thos. a full discharge,
4. If Thos. is unwilling to divest himself of a qualification Richd. will contrive his title in such a way that Thos. may preserve his qualification [electoral qualification?]
5. For one year at least Thos. should continue to possess the house & premises as also the grounds of Worster without any payment for rent or otherways except the monthly payment to Worater & taxes, in which time Richd. will let Thos. know what alteration he would have made in the house & gardens. & furnish money for the same.
And Richd. would immediately put both the Moors into the best condition possible & would also this Autumn dig the canall, in doing of which he would not loose a weeks time if Thos. approves the propositions
It is very like that it may be two years before Richd. may come to Aspley to live, in which case Thos. continuing in the possession so long is his intention. It Richd. dies before Thos., he intends that Thos. should have the estate or the rents for life,
If thou approvest these propositions thou wilt during thy life have the whole income of all thy estates except the house, close Moors & Crickils, & all thy stock of hay, corn, cattle & other things without any incumbrance or money to pay the court other than A. Reddall and the little debts thou owest. & wilt have one or two crops of the grounds about thy house & Worsters. And whilst thou art in possession it may be conducted with such privacy that the alteration of property need not appear ....
