The society originally met in premises in Messrs. Bealey's bleachworks at Dumers lane, before the original chapel was built in 1838 by Mary Bealey. It was part of the Bury Wesleyan Circuit until 1889, when it became part of the new Radcliffe Circuit. A day-school linked to the church closed in 1866, but re-opened in 1871: no records for the pre-1866 school have been deposited.
