The Watermoor Hospital began life as a poor law institution, and for records before 1930 see G/CI. After 1935, the building became a county Public Assistance Institution (see CWg/M3/1-4 for the minutes during this period), and not until 1948 was it transferred to the National Health Service for use as a hospital. The records listed below relate both to Watermoor Hospital as a P.A.I. and as a hospital
