These registers list, in chronological order, the plans submitted to the Council under building byelaws and, after 1947, under the Town and Country Planning Act of that year.

<p>The plans themselves (for the period 1935-74, starting with no. 19000) were microfilmed by the Borough Council in the 1980's; the films can be consulted at the Development Department (Building Control) along with the only available index to the whole series of plans, 1850-1974. The original plans were transferred to the Record Office (see CBP 2). For post-1974 Preston Borough plans see LAu 6.</p>
