Annual returns giving names, professions and residence of members of the Royal Edmund Lodge [Moderns] and general correspondence relating to the running of the lodge. Years 1776 - 1789, 1796, 1797, 1806 and 1807 are not extant.

Administrative / biographical background

The Royal Edmund Lodge was named and established in 1772. The location of the meeting place within Bury St Edmunds where the lodge met from 1772 is unknown but from 1800 the lodge met at the Six Bells, Chequer Square, Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk. In 1809 the lodge moved to the Angel Inn, Angel Hill, Bury St, Edmunds and this became the last meeting place. The lodge was reduced to only one member and was then declared not to exist in 1853 by the Board of General Purposes.
