Description

Letter (3 sheets) and franked envelope from Frederica, writing from Droitwich to Rouse at Podington

Frederica's comfort over grief at Rouse's lack of success with Joan suffering brings sufferer closer to Christ and his sufferings pray for her

'I always think that old Mr Bagwell, who was so deeply in love with poor pretty Charlotte (Mrs Orlebar) was so truly noble. He saw her marry another man, but he forgave her, and never forgot her: when she was a widow, he gave her a house in London to live in, and left it to her, and gave fortunes to all her children'. It has seemed to me such a true piece of chivalry: and yet he was only a stockbroker" suggests do what he suggested himself ie 'ask her if she heard anything against you, and tell her you give her up".

Suggests writing to 'poor Tressie' thinks Rouse can continue to write to Peggy glad to hear of political meeting and help to Father.

Can't manage barge trip hope Rouse enjoys visit to Wakemans

'Sir O is such a rational, pleasant man. If you at all consider my idea about combining Squire and Parson, his views would be worth having'

'I see old G - and the G class generally to be such a lamentable mistake: and where is one to get a better in such a little place? Mr More was Squire and Parson; in fact made himself parson after he inherited Larden, seeing that no decent man would ever be got for Shipton Church' just a suggestion

Letter undated c.September 188?

G above refers to Geldart Vicar of Podington
