Description

These papers were collected by Richard F.E. and John A.H. Ferrier in the course of their genealogical researches. As well as family documents (some inherited from Judith Ferrier of Hemsby) they include a number of deeds bought from dealers and probably also papers which passed to R.F.E. Ferrier as a solicitor at Great Yarmouth.

<p>Further Ferrier documents were received in 1986 from Mr. R.C. Ferrier (see MC 161). They included Great Yarmouth deeds of 1397 and Richard Ferrier's diary of 1687.</p>

Administrative / biographical background

The Ferrier family came to Yarmouth from Norwich in the mid 16th century and its history is set out in the introduction to R.F.E. and J.A.H. Ferrier's edition of the travel diary of 1687 of Major Richard Ferrier in Camden Miscellany vol. ix. 1894.
