Administrative / biographical background (Historical or biographical information about the creator of the record and the context of its creation)

The records of this firm of solicitors were deposited by Messrs. Addison, Jesson & Cooper, another firm of Walsall solicitors who shared the same chambers as Wilkinsons in Bradford St. Samuel Wilkinson, who appears to have founded this firm, was also Town Clerk of Walsall. By 1880 the firm was known as Wilkinson & Gillespie and by 1900 as Wilkinson, Mills & Walford. By 1924 Wilkinson & Co. were at the same address as Addison & Cooper and this continued until at least 1940. It is possible that there may have been an amalgamation between Wilkinsons and Addison & Cooper after this date. However the documents within this collection are the papers of clients who belonged exclusively to Wilkinsons and have therefore not been amalgamated with the main Addison, Jesson & Cooper collection, D1317.
