Minutes, accounts and shareholding records of the Coventry Corn Exchange and Public Room Company which was formed in 1854. The Corn Exchange was opened on Hertford Street in 1856. Poole's "History of Coventry" includes a description of the building and an illustration of the front elevation. As well as housing the market, the building was also used for public functions of various kinds. The Company was sold in 1898 and a new Corn Exchange opened in 1909 in Smithford Street. The old Corn Exchange building became first a music hall and then a cinema before being burned down in 1931
