Folio 717. Letter from William F Wray, assistant overseer for the parish of East Dereham in the Mitford and Launditch Poor Law Union, to the Local Government Board. He writes in answer to a previous letter and explains that he was unable to collect all sums by 25 March 1880, only finally collecting all of them by 24 April 1880. He thought he was doing the correct thing by balancing the books at the later date but now realises his mistake, and assures the Board that it will not happen again.
Annotated: 'State that his explanation is unsatisfactory, as his attention was called to similar irregularities after the audit of his accounts for the half years ended, respectively at Michaelmas 1874 and Lady Day 1875. Caution him that if any further irregularity in this respect should occur, the Board will notice his conduct more seriously. Copy letter to overseers', 11 December 1880.
