The tulsee [Tulsi plant] tree (the holy basil of the Hindus) outside the dwelling of a Hindu widow. It is carefully looked after by the woman, her husband's ashes being preserved there. The piece of carving from a wrecked bungalow was her own idea of decoration, and she was very pleased that it was observed by a European stranger.
