The present collection, which is evidently incomplete, was received in a trunk the key of which was labelled "Re Delafield dec'd. From Surr Gribble and Oliver 28 Feby. 1901."

The Delafield family were established at Waddesdon from the early 16th century. In 1733 John Delafield, citizen and leatherseller of London was proprietor of the water-works at Aylesbury which later became the site of the brewery founded by Dell, Fell and Barker in 1786 (no. 17). John Delafield of London (d.1763) married Martha, daughter of Jacob Dell of Aylesbury.
