Administrative / biographical background

The Hall was built in 1894 as a speculative venture by a public company; in 1923 this company went into liquidation, and the Hall, long mortgaged for £200, was thereupon redeemed by eight local persons who raised the £200 between them and became the first Trustees. In 1965 the Hall was registered as a Charity under the Charity Commissioners, but the constitution of management by Trustees and Committee continues. No records survive prior to 1923, as far as is known.

For sale of 15 shares in this company see DX/132/1912 (2 houses, 2 farms, etc., in Burgh, Beaumont, Kirkandrews on Eden) also D/Sen 23/37 for sale of 40 shares, 1901
