The depositors father, Jack Meek was a well known Jewish manufacturer of rainproof and water-proof garments. He was a self made man, born in Manchester and educated at the Jews School. In later years he paid for outings for the pupils of the Jews School to Belle Vue, and was a recognised communal figure. He laid the foundation stone of Higher Crumpsall Synagogue and was a founder member of the Whitefield Golf Club. He was also involved in work for the Jewish Board of Guardians and the Home for the Aged, Needy and Incurable Jews.
