Other Data: Private Doyle was killed on 11 November 1920 during the attack on the Shatt Abu Shuraish. There was a bridge (the Imam Abdullah bridge) on the Baghdad-Basra Railway that crossed the Shatt about 4 miles north of Samawah and part of the plan for Coningham's advance on Rumaithah included securing the bridge and repairing it. A sub-section of D Company under 17354 Sergeant J. Strachan accompanied the attack of the 3/23 Sikhs. The Sikhs and the sub-section crossed to the right bank of the Shatt but came under heavy fire. However, they managed to cover the attack by the 3/5 Gurkhas (who were also accompanied by a sub-section of D Company) on the village of Artabauri on the right bank. Private Doyle was killed and two MGC men were wounded.;
