Description (What the record is about)
-
Yellow cloth bound album measuring 285x330mm, stamped 'Sunny Memories' in gilt on front cover; the dates '1900-1902' are also handwritten in black ink on the front cover. The snapshots are stuck down onto the page, with captions written in ink on the aperture overlays. Most of the photographs in the album relate to Frederick Marshman Bailey's life in India between 1900-02. There are also some views taken during a fishing holiday in Norway in 1900, and some Norwegian views taken in 1901 and 1902, presumably by his parents. F.M. Bailey served with the Middlesex Regiment at Wellington in the Nilgiris from October 1900, before transferring a year later to the 17th Bengal Lancers at Rawalpindi. This period is covered in the album and includes views at Wellington and Mysore in 1901 (hunting scenes, military activities, etc.), and photographs taken at Rawalpindi in 1902. Many of these latter relate to the launch of a military balloon. Process = (?)Gelatin printing-out paper. Photographers = Frederick Marshman Bailey,;.
