INTRODUCTION:
The following comprise indentures between the Sheriff and freeholders of the county on the election of Knights of the Shire to represent the County in Parliament, together with oaths of the Sheriff and or the Under Sheriff that he has obtained no personal advantage by the election
The indentures which are usually endorsed as 'counterparts' are signed and sealed by the sheriff only to and including the election of December 1832; thereafter they are signed and sealed by the Sheriff and freeholders. From December 1832 there are two Divisions each returning two Knights.
