Rev. Joseph Tayrer appointed chaplain of Bodmin gaol in lieu of Rev. George Thomas Plummer. Divine service according to liturgy of Church of England to be performed in gaol chapel, and sermon to be preached every Sunday, morning and afternoon alternately, to begin between 9 and 11a.m. or between 2 and 3p.m. in winter and between 2 and 4p.m. in summer.

Thomas Reed of Perranzabuloe, yeo., indicted for taking a fowling piece and parts of fowling pieces, property of Thomas Libby: three months' hard labour in Bodmin gaol, during which time public whipping in street at Bodmin "for 100 yards up the street".

Above T.R. indicted for taking a brass pan, property of William Glasson: three months' hard labour in Bodmin gaol, and again public whipping up the street in Bodmin.

John Chapman of St. Tudy, lab. indicted for taking a gallon of wheat, property of Giles Rounseval: two years' hard labour in Bodmin gaol, during which time on two market days, public whipping in streets of Bodmin "from Butter Market 100 yards up the street unless he shall in the meantime voluntarily enter into his Majesty's army".

Gregory Bray of St. Tudy, lab. indicted for taking a pound of bacon, property of Walter Oke: three weeks' hard labour in Bodmin gaol.

James Vean of Liskeard, currier, and Samuel Hawken of Liskeard, cordwainer, indicted for assaulting Sally Peake: Both received two months in Bodmin gaol, fined 5s. each, to remain in gaol until fines paid.

Joseph Ripper of Stithians, miller, and Catherine Ripper of Stithians, spinster, indicted for assault on William Hellings, who was assisting Thomas Martin, then a constable of Stithians: J.R. fined £1 and one month in county gaol. C.R. fined 1s. and discharged.

Salt duties

Jeremiah Jones, master of sloop 'Britannia' of port of Cardigan, and John Fowler of Polperro in parish of Talland, fish curer, stated on oath, firstly J.J., that on 5 May he shipped at Liverpool 1,526 bushels, 44 pounds of British salt to carry to Polperro on account of Zephaniah Job, fish curer. Off Cape Cornwall vessel ran into stormy weather, and took in much water. J.F. stated that on arrival at Polperro he weighed the salt at 1,415 bushels, 20 pounds. Also that John Griffiths mate of the sloop at the time when salt was shipped had since been drowned: Collector of Excise to cancel the bond.

Richard Rowett master of brig 'Speculation' of Looe, and Benjamin Hicks of Talland, fish curer, stated on oath that on 7 May last they shipped at Liverpool 5,223 bushels 12lbs of British salt to carry to Looe, leaving Liverpool on 9 May. On voyage the vessel ran into stormy weather and took in water. B.H. weighed salt on arrival at 5096 bushels, having lost 127 bushels 12lbs: Collector of Excise to cancel bond.

William Evans, master of sloop 'Ceres' from Arundel, and Francis Wilson, mate, and John Arnold of Mevagissey, officer of excise came to court. W.E. and F.W. stated that on 9 June they shipped at Liverpool 1,729 bushels of salt to carry to Gorran in port of Fowey on account of John Mills, fish curer. On voyage they ran into stormy weather, and took in water: J.A. stated that on arrival at Gorran salt weighed only 1,638 bushels 37lbs: Collector of Excise to cancel bond.

James Wilcocks Hele, master, and John Quinney, mariner, of schooner 'Commerce' of Exeter and Michael Davy of Newlyn, Paul, fish curer came to court. J.W.H. and J.Q. stated that on 11 Mar. they shipped at Liverpool 4,419 bushels 36lbs of British salt to carry to Newlyn. On voyage vessel shipped water, and on arrival at Newlyn salt weighed only 4,356 bushels: Collector of excise to cancel bond.

William Pritchard, master, and Robert Humphry, mate, of sloop 'Vermin' of Pwhilley (sic) [? Pwhelli] in Wales and Thomas Kingdom of Truro malster, came before court and stated they shipped at Liverpool on 15 Apr. last 1760 bushels of British salt on which duty was paid, to carry to Truro on account of Thomas Tuck and Son. Due to storms the vessel shipped water, and on arrival at Truro the salt was found to be only 1580 bushels: Collector of Excise to refund duty on lost salt to the original proprietors [names left blank].
