Letter of John Bowyer, attorney, Westgate Street, Gloucester sending Robert Leslie, Grand Secretary, London a bill and remarking on the 'illiberal treatment' to Antients' lodges caused by the circulars sent by the Moderns Grand Lodge.

Administrative / biographical background

Royal Lebanon Lodge was granted a warrant by the Antients' Grand Lodge on 18 January 1799 to meet as No. 316 and named in 1801. It met at the Boothall Inn, Westgate Street, Gloucester from 1799. After the union between the Antients' Grand Lodge and Moderns' Grand Lodge in 1813 to form the United Grand Lodge of England in 1813, the Lodge received the number No. 401. In 1817 the Lodge moved to the Bell Inn, Southgate Street, Gloucester and in 1821 to private rooms in New Inn Lane, Gloucester. The Lodge was erased on 5 December 1838.
