8 April Confirmation Service at St. Andrew's Church
28 April Informal opening of the Churchdown Institute at the Chosen Hotel [The Institute was formerly called the Recreation Club]
14 May Formal opening of ditto. List of donors of equipment etc. Diarist had interesting discussion with Mr. Walker re. Yoga, Buddhism etc.
2 June Visit to Newent, Dymock and Pauntley churches
4 June Attended Missionary Festival at Glos. Cathedral. Archbishop of Brisbane, in his address, said he took a pessimistic view of the present state of the world
5 Aug. Visit to Stow-on-the-Wold - description, including church. Other places included Oddington, Daylesford (where Warren Hastings was buried), Addlestrop
21 Aug. Death of Captain Child, of Chosen Hill, a distinguished resident of Churchdown for about 30 years. [References to him occur frequently in these diaries]
25 Sept. Suggestion put to Parish Council that the almshouses be restored to the care of the Vicar and Churchwardens, as expenditure on them by the Council would be surcharged by the Auditor. Suggestion rejected
28 Oct. Impressed by a calculating machine
5 Dec. Visit to Gloucester Cathedral - tour conducted by the Dean
12 Dec. Entertainment at the school. "Some big girls danced - and the scene was very vulgar owing to their short frocks"
24 Dec. Christmas presents sent and received listed
28 Dec. Mentions a very severe earthquake in S. Italy - many thousands of lives lost

1 Jan. Reference to a girl in Cheltenham Hospital. "She is very ill and by Rongten [sic] Rays she is found to have two hearts"
