The South West Sussex Internal Drainage District and the Board for that District were both constituted on 1 August 1948 by the South West Sussex Rivers Catchment Board (South West Sussex Internal Drainage District) Order, 1948 [Statutory Instruments, 1948, No. 1817, made by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries under s. 4(1)(b) of the Land Drainage Act, 1930 (20 and 21 George V, c. 44).]
The powers and duties of the Drainage Board were transferred to the South West Sussex Rivers Catchment Board on 1 May 1949 by the South West Sussex Rivers Catchment Board (Transfer of Powers of the South West Sussex Internal Drainage District) Order, 1949 [S. I., 1949, No. 806, made by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries under s. 11 of the Land Drainage Act, 1930 (20 and 21 George V, c. 44).]
