1573-1632, 1658, 1668 The dues paid into the 'Great Box' were for the exercise of certain trades on land under the following heads: shops, beer tiplers, bakers and brewers, 'fate' and 'fetting,'¹ butchers, vintners and occasionally artificers. The collectors' accounts of these dues were made quarterly and consist of long narrow sheets stitched together to form a single gathering. They contain lists of names of tradesmen in classes; the entries for vintners include the quantity of wine imported by each.
